Why dive here
With 91+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, giant moray eels, humpback whales, orcas and sea turtles - Mada Gala offers some of Hikkaduwa & South Coast's richest diving. Water ranges 28-31°C, warmest March, April, May.
Mada Gala offers a straightforward dive, popular with local operators in Hikkaduwa. It’s a series of rocky outcrops and small boulders that create sheltered spots for groupers and moray eels. We usually find it’s a good choice for newer divers or those looking for a relaxed second dive, with depths staying fairly shallow. Expect to see the typical reef fish of the area, like parrotfish and surgeonfish, cruising amongst the rock formations.
