With 91+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue whales, giant moray eels, humpback whales, orcas and sea turtles - SS Orestes offers some of Hikkaduwa & South Coast's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 28-31°C, warmest March, April, May.
The SS Orestes sits upright at 22 meters, a more intact wreck than some others in the area. We found it’s a good spot for newer wreck divers to get a feel for penetration, with open cargo holds offering easy swim-throughs. Look for batfish hovering in the superstructure and moray eels tucked into the hull. Visibility can be a bit variable, but it’s generally a relaxed dive.
