LUISA MADRE - Vlora

Okay, let's talk about the Luisa Madre. If you’re a purist, chasing deep wrecks and pelagic thrills, this one might not be your pick. But for those of us who appreciate a story, and something genuinely unique, the Luisa Madre is a fascinating shallow dive in Vlora. It’s a derelict motor vessel, broken into pieces and scattered across the seabed at a maximum depth of just two metres. We love it because it’s a living, breathing shipwreck museum, perfect for an extended snorkel or a very long, shallow dive. You’ll spend your time tracing the broken ribs of the hull, spotting the propeller shaft, and exploring the engine room. What’s really special is how the light plays on the metal, illuminating clouds of juvenile damselfish that have made the wreckage home. You'll often find small octopus tucked into crevices, darting crabs, and plenty of blennies eyeing you from their rocky perches. Our favourite is watching the sunfish and garfish patrol the edges, curious about the structure. It’s ideal for photographers, or anyone who just wants to drift slowly, soak it all in, and feel the history. Go on a calm morning for the best visibility, before any afternoon chop stirs things up.
