Wrack Ribolovc - Kornati Islands
The Wrack Ribolovc isn't your typical Croatian wreck. It’s got a real story to it, a fishing trawler that went down sometime in the mid-20th century. We love the way it sits, listing heavily to one side, almost as if it’s still trying to right itself. You'll find it fairly intact, the bow still proud, the stern broken but recognisable. Dropping down, the first thing you notice is the hull, completely encrusted with sponges and hydroids, a riot of orange and purple against the blue. Schools of small sprats and pilchards shimmer over the deck, constantly scattering as a phantom Pollock darts through them. We've spent ages just watching the painted eels peeking from the shadows, or tracing the delicate fins of Frie's gobies clinging to the metal. Look closely around the wheelhouse; we often spot scorpionfish perfectly camouflaged against the rust. Inside, where the light penetrates, you might catch a glimpse of a sleepy Cape shark, or a dory hovering in the gloom. It’s a dive that offers a real sense of history, perfect for those who appreciate wrecks that have become artificial reefs rather than just metal on the seabed. Come on a calm day; the visibility really helps bring out the colours.
