Liberty - Larnaca
The Liberty in Larnaca is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to. No, it’s not the Zenobia, but it has a quiet charm and its own story, which we always appreciate. She’s a small, wooden fishing boat, scuttled on purpose back in 2009, so she’s been down there long enough for marine life to properly settle in. What we love about the Liberty is how accessible she is, sitting in manageable depths. You can easily do a relaxed circuit, exploring her cabins and decks. The wooden structure has softened over time, providing plenty of nooks and crannies. We’ve spotted countless Rhomboid Sweepers darting through the interior, flashing silver, and there are always a few Ornate Wrasse poking around the bow. Look closely among the eelgrass meadows surrounding the wreck; we’ve had luck finding Seahorses here, especially in late spring. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for photographers wanting to practice their wreck composition or newer divers getting comfortable with overhead environments without feeling overwhelmed. We’d suggest going early in the morning for the best light penetration through the hull.
