MUGGINE - Corsica

Muggine isn't your typical historical wreck, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't some ancient galleon; it's a modern fishing vessel, deliberately scuttled in 1988 to create an artificial reef. Dropping onto the deck at around 30 metres, you immediately notice how intact she is. The wheelhouse is still there, and you can fin through the open doorways, imagining the crew going about their day. It feels less like a grave and more like a sunken time capsule. What really makes Muggine special, though, is the sheer volume of fish. Schools of barracuda often circle the mast, their silver scales glinting in the shafts of sunlight that pierce the Mediterranean blue. We’ve seen huge groupers lurking in the shadows of the hold, and the deck itself is carpeted in vibrant anemones. It's a proper playground for experienced wreck divers comfortable with depths down to 48 metres. Go in the morning; the light is best then, really bringing out the colours on the superstructure. Just remember, this is a deep dive, so plan your gas and deco carefully.
