P47 de Santa Severa - Corsica

The P47 Thunderbolt off Santa Severa is one of those Mediterranean wrecks that just *feels* right. It’s a shallow, approachable dive, sitting upright in the sand at 24 metres, perfect for newer wreck divers or anyone wanting a relaxed second dive. We love that you can take your time here, really soaking in the history. This isn’t some broken-up debris field. It's a remarkably intact WWII fighter plane. You can clearly make out the cockpit, the wings, even the landing gear, all gently encrusted with yellow gorgonians and sponges. Sunlight filters down, making the whole scene glow. Our favourite part is peeking into the cockpit, imagining the pilot’s last moments. Look for the resident scorpionfish camouflaged on the fuselage – they're always there. Schools of damselfish often hover above the wreck, a shimmering curtain you swim through. Visibility here is usually excellent, giving you a wide view of the plane as you approach, a ghostly shape materialising from the blue. It’s a really moving dive, and one we always recommend.
