P51 "Mustang", wreck - Corsica

The P51 Mustang wreck off Corsica is a beauty, a proper photo opportunity. Dropping down, you hit the tail at about 25 metres. It’s mostly intact, the wings still pretty much attached to the fuselage, which isn't always the case with these older planes. We love that you can clearly make out the cockpit, though it’s a bit squashed now, and the engine block has mostly separated. What really gets us about this one, apart from the history, is how the Mediterranean life has just taken over. You'll spot scorpionfish tucked into the crevices, their camouflage almost perfect against the corroded metal. Schools of damselfish often hover around the tail fin, glinting in the shafts of light. Our favourite part is peeking under the wings for conger eels, they’re usually pretty chilled out there. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for intermediate divers looking for a historical wreck that isn't too deep, offering plenty to explore and photograph without strong currents to worry about. Go early for the best light, it really highlights the plane’s profile.
