Cockpit et moteur du Dornier 24 - Marseille & Calanques

The Cockpit et moteur du Dornier 24 is a fantastic little wreck, one of our favourites in the Calanques. You’ll drop down onto a sandy bottom at around 27 metres, and there it sits: the cockpit, surprisingly intact, with gauges still visible behind the glass. It’s compact, making it a great dive for those who enjoy exploring every nook and cranny. We’ve spent whole dives just poking around this section. Just a short swim away, the engine block rests, an impressive piece of machinery now completely overgrown with colourful gorgonians and sponges. Look closely, and you’ll spot scorpionfish tucked into crevices and schools of small damselfish flitting around the propeller blades. The water here often has that deep Mediterranean blue, and with good visibility, the light filtering down onto the wreck creates a really atmospheric scene. It’s a site that tells a story, a poignant piece of history reclaimed by the sea. We’d suggest going early to avoid the crowds, as it can get busy in peak season.
