Why dive here
With 157+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and mobula rays (devil rays) - GROTTE DU CAPELAN offers some of Marseille & Calanques's richest cave diving. Water ranges 14-25°C, warmest July, August, September.
Capelan Cave is a dive for those comfortable with overhead environments. The entry is around 10 meters, leading into a series of chambers and tunnels that extend down to 30 meters. We’ve seen octopuses tucked into crevices and schools of small fish near the entrances. It's a good spot for divers looking for a more sheltered, geological dive, especially if the sea is choppy.
Safety Notes
Overhead environment - never enter without proper cave/cavern training, redundant equipment, and a guideline.
