KERBIHAN - Marseille & Calanques

Kerbihan, a fishing trawler that met its end in the 1960s, is one of our favourite Marseille wrecks for a reason. Resting upright at 50 metres, it's a deep dive, yes, but the wreck itself is surprisingly intact and a joy to explore. We love swimming along the superstructure, feeling the cool water slide past as we peer into the wheelhouse, imagining the last moments of its working life. The real draw here, though, is how the Mediterranean has reclaimed it. Schools of glinting barracuda often circle the mast, their silver scales catching the light. Inside the hull, you'll find conger eels peering from every dark crevice, thick as your arm. Look closely at the deck plating, too; scorpionfish are masters of camouflage here, blending perfectly with the encrusting sponges. We’d suggest a calm morning dive; the visibility tends to be best then, really letting you appreciate the scale of the vessel as you descend. It's a dive for those comfortable with depth and who appreciate a wreck that tells a story, not just a structure.
