L avion de planier - Marseille & Calanques

The L'Avion de Planier is one of those Mediterranean wrecks that just *gets* you. We love dropping onto the sandy bottom at 40 meters and seeing the full profile of the WWII Junkers Ju 88 bomber, mostly intact. The plane lies on its belly, wings spread, and you can still make out the cockpit area and sections of the fuselage. It's an atmospheric dive, with the dim light filtering down through the blue, giving the wreck a ghostly presence. Our favourite part is exploring the tail section; it’s still relatively complete and provides some excellent photographic opportunities. The wreck itself has become a home for a surprising amount of life. We've regularly seen conger eels poking their heads from openings, and schools of small fish shimmer above the wings. Scorpionfish are usually camouflaged against the metal, so keep an eye out. This site is best for experienced divers comfortable with deeper dives and potential currents. It’s not an entry-level wreck, but for those with the training, it’s a truly rewarding experience, a piece of history resting quietly on the seabed.
