Lac de Laffrey
Why dive here
With 157+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, dolphins, dwarf minke whales, humpback whales and mobula rays (devil rays) - Lac de Laffrey offers some of Marseille & Calanques's richest diving. Water ranges 14-25°C, warmest July, August, September.
Lac de Laffrey offers a refreshing change from the saltwater dives of the Calanques. It's a high-altitude lake, so expect cooler water and different light. We've found it’s a good spot for buoyancy practice or just enjoying a calm, freshwater environment. There isn't the big marine life of the sea, but it's peaceful and a good option when the Mediterranean is rough.
