LST 282 - Marseille & Calanques

The LST 282 is one of our favourite wreck dives in the Marseille region, a proper historical piece that just feels good to be on. She was a US tank landing ship, sunk in 1944 after a mine strike, and now rests on her port side at around 30 metres. The sheer scale is impressive, almost 100 metres long, and we love drifting along her deck, imagining the chaos of her final moments. You'll find her largely intact, a real testament to time and the forgiving nature of the Med. Expect to see schools of barracuda circling the superstructure and moray eels peeking from every nook and cranny. Inside, if you're qualified and with a local guide, the tank deck offers some incredible penetration, with light shafts cutting through the gloom. It's an atmospheric dive, best appreciated on a calm day when visibility pushes past 20 metres. We'd suggest going in the morning to beat the afternoon boat traffic. This isn't one for beginners, but if you’re comfortable with depth and have a good trim, the LST 282 is a rewarding exploration.
