MARIA SYLVIA - Marseille & Calanques

The Maria Sylvia wreck in Marseille is one of those spots we love for its sheer approachability. At just five metres, it’s a perfect shallow dive, especially good for knocking the rust off your skills or introducing someone new to wreck diving without the usual depth anxiety. What you’ll find is the remains of a small fishing trawler, mostly broken up but still very much recognisable as a boat. We always appreciate how the light plays on the fragmented hull, especially on a sunny afternoon, dappling through the water. It’s a mosaic of rusted metal plates and twisted beams, now home to clouds of small damselfish and curious blennies peeking out from every crevice. We often spot octopus tucked away, their eyes watching us with unnerving intelligence. You can spend a good long time here, just slowly finning around, picking out details of the wreck and the marine life that has made it home. It's a calm, meditative dive, great for practicing your buoyancy and simply enjoying being underwater.
