MIQUELON (POSSIBLY) - Marseille & Calanques

Miquelon is one of those wrecks that just gets under your skin. We often find ourselves just floating above her, watching the light play on her broken deck, imagining the story she could tell. She’s a trawler, nothing grand, but she’s come to rest upright at 35 metres, her bow pointing determinedly towards the surface, almost as if she’s still trying to make her way home. Dropping down, the visibility is usually good enough to spot her from about 15 metres, a dark shape materialising from the Mediterranean blue. The stern is the most intact part, and we love finning through the wheelhouse, feeling the cool current push us gently. Her cargo holds are open, a great place to spot conger eels – some of them are huge, curled up in the gloom. Scorpionfish often perch on the deck, camouflaged against the rust, so keep an eye out. It’s a dive that suits those who appreciate a quiet, contemplative wreck, one where you can take your time exploring the details rather than being overwhelmed by scale. The feeling of history here is palpable.
