SPAHI - Marseille & Calanques
The Spahi, a French military vessel, lies in the Calanques just outside Marseille. It’s a good spot if you're looking for a wreck that's still got some teeth, so to speak. Dropping to 20 metres, the wreck is classified as "dangerous," which means it’s largely intact but demands respect. You'll navigate through the remains of a serious warship, not just scattered debris. Look for schools of damselfish darting through the superstructure and the occasional conger eel peering from crevices. It’s a dive for those who appreciate the somber history of a sunken ship and a good swim-through if you’re careful.
