TORRENT - Marseille & Calanques

The Torrent, lying on its side at a shallow 22 meters, is one of our favourite wreck dives in the Calanques. It's a tanker that went down in 1923, and while "dangerous wreck" might sound ominous, it just means you need to be respectful. You won’t be penetrating deep, but the structure itself offers plenty to explore. We particularly love the bow section, with its large anchor chain draped across the deck, now completely encrusted with colourful gorgonians. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, and if you look closely into the shadowed nooks, you’ll often spot lobsters and conger eels peeking out. The light penetration here is often fantastic, especially on a sunny afternoon, painting the deck in brilliant blues and greens. It's a surprisingly intact wreck for its age and depth, giving you a real sense of its past. This site is perfect for divers who appreciate history and don't mind a leisurely swim around a substantial, yet accessible, piece of maritime heritage.
