Center Action Thassos - Alonissos Marine Park

Center Action Thassos is one of those sites we always try to hit when we're in Alonissos. It’s not about dramatic drop-offs, but the sheer density of life in the cracks and crevices. You’ll find yourself constantly peering into every nook, spotting Mediterranean Beadlet Anemones waving gently and the tell-tale antennae of Common Spiny Lobsters peeking out from beneath ledges. Our favourite discovery here is the Variable Loggerhead Sponge, massive and sculptural, providing homes for all sorts of smaller critters like the Atlantic mud shrimp, if you have a keen eye. Visibility is generally excellent, often hitting 25-30 metres on a good day, making it easy to spot the Streaked Gurnards kicking up sand or a solitary Scorpionfish blending in with the rocks. We often find juvenile Garrupa here, too, darting in and out of the shadows. It’s a superb spot for macro enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys a slower, more deliberate dive, spending time observing individual species rather than racing along. We’d suggest a longer bottom time here if your gas allows, to really soak it all in.
