EVANGELISTRIA - Alonissos Marine Park

Evangelistria, she’s a melancholic beauty. This 50-meter fishing vessel went down in ’78 after a collision, and you feel that history when you’re finning past her bridge. She lies deep, the deck starting around 30 meters and dropping to 60, so this is definitely one for advanced divers with good buoyancy and gas planning. What we love about Evangelistria isn’t just her intact structure – the mast still reaches for the surface, and the bow section is surprisingly complete – but the way the Mediterranean has reclaimed her. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, while moray eels peek from portholes. We’ve spotted large groupers lurking in the shadows of the hold, and her prop is a fantastic spot to find scorpionfish camouflaged against the metal. It’s a quiet dive, often with great visibility, allowing you to really absorb the scale of the wreck. Our favourite part is exploring the stern, where the fishing gear is still visible, tangled with sponges and soft corals. Go early in the morning; the light filtering down through the blue is something else.
