KASSANDRA (POSSIBLY) - Alonissos Marine Park

Kassandra, though we’re still working on confirming the name, is one of those Mediterranean wrecks that just *feels* right. She’s a motor vessel, a good size, and went down in '73 after running aground. We appreciate that she’s not too deep, topping out at 25 metres, which gives you plenty of bottom time to really soak it in. What we love about this wreck is how she’s settled. She’s broken, yes, but not so much that she loses her ship-like feel. You can still make out the superstructure, the hull plates, and the skeletal ribs, all draped in a thick carpet of sponges and hydroids. Our favourite part is exploring the cargo holds, where schools of damselfish flutter out of view as you fin past. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for moray eels – they’re almost always lurking. It’s a dive that suits those who appreciate history and the slow creep of nature reclaiming man-made structures. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve touched a piece of the past, now very much alive again.
