KYPROS - Alonissos Marine Park

The Kypros wreck, resting gently at 15 metres, is our kind of dive. It’s not some dramatic, deep-sea exploration, but a beautifully accessible piece of history. This fishing vessel, beached in 1973, has settled into the mud and sand, creating a fantastic artificial reef. We love hovering over the deck, picturing its working life before it became home to damselfish and the occasional inquisitive grouper. What makes Kypros special is its shallow depth and calm demeanor. You get to spend a good long time exploring its length, running your hand (gently, of course) along the railings now softened by algae and anemones. The light here, especially mid-morning, filters through the water and plays across the metal, giving the wreck a really ethereal glow. It’s a superb site for photographers looking to capture the moody beauty of a historical wreck without the usual depth challenges. Keep an eye out for octopus tucked into crevices, particularly around the bow. It’s a very relaxed dive, perfect for those who want to appreciate the quiet transformation of man-made objects into marine habitats.
