KYRIAKI - Alonissos Marine Park

Kyriaki isn’t the kind of deep wreck you need advanced certs for, and that’s precisely why we love it. This isn't some colossal freighter, but a small motor vessel, a working boat that met its end in ’77. It ran aground in rough weather, and now it rests just 10 metres down, making it perfect for an easy, relaxed dive, even for newer divers getting comfortable with wrecks. It’s got a real character to it, this wreck. You can still make out the outline of the wheelhouse, the cargo hold. Over the years, the Mediterranean has really claimed it; the metal is draped in sponges and soft corals, a vibrant, living tapestry. Look closely and you’ll spot nudibranchs, often some colourful ones, grazing on the growth. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, darting in and out of the shadows the hull casts. We’d suggest going in the late morning, when the sun’s high – the light penetrates right down, illuminating the wreck and those incredible colours. It’s a photographer’s dream, honestly, without the pressure of deep deco limits.
