lihadonisia Wreck - Alonissos Marine Park

Lihadonisia Wreck is one of those sites that just feels right. Forget the generic "Mediterranean wreck" vibe; this one has character. We love how the timbers have softened over centuries, now draped in sponges and soft corals that pulse gently with the surge. Descending onto the main hull, you can really make out the ship’s original lines, especially that distinctive stern section. It’s not just a pile of wood; it’s a skeleton with stories. Keep an eye out for the resident moray eels peeking from shadowy crevices, and the occasional octopus, camouflaged perfectly against the ancient wood. We’ve had some cracking encounters with schools of ornate wrasse here too, darting through the broken decking like living jewels. Our favourite moment is always finning through the larger sections of collapsed cargo holds, imagining what this vessel carried before its final rest. It’s an accessible wreck for most divers, not too deep, and typically has good visibility. It’s perfect for those who appreciate history and the slow reclamation by the sea.
