MITIKAS - Alonissos Marine Park

Mitikas isn’t your typical deep, mysterious wreck. This tugboat, sunk deliberately by the Coast Guard in 1960, sits shallow, a mere 6 metres down. It’s perfect for a relaxed second dive or for those looking to spend some serious bottom time without the deco stress. We love how the sunlight filters through the water, illuminating the whole structure. You can really take your time here, poking around the wheelhouse and engine room, which are surprisingly intact. The wreck itself is a magnet for marine life. We’ve seen schools of damselfish flitting through the superstructure, moray eels peeking out from various nooks, and often a hefty grouper patrolling the stern. Keep an eye out for nudibranchs, too – the metalwork is covered in them, little flashes of colour against the rust. It’s a photographer's dream, especially on a bright day. We’d suggest going early in the morning to catch the best light and avoid any boat traffic.
