PIRAEUS II - Alonissos Marine Park

Piraeus II sits shallow, just seven metres down, making it one of our favourite easy wreck dives in Alonissos. It’s a 61-metre tanker, originally built in 1946, that went down after a fire in 1977. You can really feel the history as you fin over the deck, the metalwork now draped in green algae and orange sponges. We love how accessible this wreck is; you can spend ages just tracing the outline, peering into openings where the deck plates have collapsed. Schools of small damselfish shimmer above the superstructure, darting in and out of the rusted beams. Look closely, and you’ll spot scorpionfish camouflaged against the encrusted metal and nudibranchs grazing the sponges. The light here is fantastic, especially around midday, filtering through the water and illuminating the wreck’s contours. It’s an ideal spot for photographers and anyone new to wreck diving, offering plenty to see without any deep technical demands.
