PORTUGAL (FOREPART) - Alonissos Marine Park

The Forepart of the *Portugal* sits in a remarkably shallow 15m, making it one of our favourite wreck dives for extended bottom times in Alonissos. We love how the bow section is still largely intact, dramatically upright against the rocky seabed where it ran aground in 1957. You can poke around the superstructure, peer into what remains of the cabins, and really get a feel for the ship’s scale. The shallow depth means sunlight penetrates beautifully, illuminating the gorgonians and sponges that cling to every surface. Look for moray eels tucked into crevices, and we’ve often seen schools of damselfish flitting through the open hatches. It’s a super relaxed dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who wants to spend quality time exploring a piece of history. The *Portugal* is generally sheltered too, making it a good option on days when other sites are a bit choppy.
