Rescue ship Mimis - Alonissos Marine Park

We love a good wreck, and the Mimis doesn't disappoint. This rescue ship, sunk intentionally in the Alonissos Marine Park, feels like it’s been down there forever, even though it’s a relatively recent addition. Dropping down, the sheer size hits you first; she sits upright, proud, and remarkably intact on the sandy seabed. What really gets us about the Mimis is how quickly the Mediterranean has claimed it. Swarms of tiny glassfish shimmer in and out of the bridge, turning the interior into a silver cloud. We've seen moray eels peeking out from every nook and cranny, and nudibranchs grazing across the railings. Our favourite part is exploring the stern, where the prop is still visible, now encrusted with sponges and home to curious damselfish. It’s a photographer’s dream, especially when the light filters through the clear water, illuminating the ghostly superstructure. This is a solid dive for anyone comfortable with deeper wrecks who appreciates history and marine life collaborating to create something new.
