HMS M.28 - Halkidiki

The HMS M.28, just off Halkidiki, is a proper piece of history sitting at a very approachable 12 metres. We love how the shallow depth lets you really take your time, tracing the outline of this old monitor. She went down in 1918, a casualty of the Goeben and Breslau, and you can feel that weight of history as you swim over her decks. What you get here is a remarkably intact wreck for her age and depth. The bow section is particularly good, still holding much of its shape, and you can poke around the remains of the bridge. Visibility here is often excellent, especially in late spring, letting the light play over the metalwork. Schools of glinting silversides often swarm the superstructure, and we’ve spotted moray eels tucked into crevices. It’s a great site for photographers, the way the sunlight filters down, illuminating the wreck’s details and the fish moving through it. Our favourite part is lingering over the gun emplacements, imagining the scene all those years ago. This site really suits divers who appreciate accessible wreck diving with a strong sense of its past.
