LIANA M - Halkidiki

The Liana M is an odd little wreck, but one we consistently enjoy, especially if you’re into something a bit different. She’s not deep, just six metres, which means you get incredible bottom time and good light penetration almost all day. This dredger sank back in '74, after being ripped from her moorings in a Force 10 gale and eventually settling near Epanomi. We love how accessible she is; you can fin right over and spend ages exploring the nooks and crannies of her metal skeleton. Her non-propelled nature means she’s a fairly simple structure, but that also makes her perfect for newer wreck divers or those wanting a relaxed poke-around. What really makes the Liana M shine is the sheer volume of small critters that have made her home. Look closely in the shadowed plates and you’ll spot blennies eyeing you up, gobies darting into cover, and often small schools of juvenile sea bream swirling around the superstructure. It’s a photographer's dream for macro shots, particularly in the late morning light when everything is softly illuminated. Our top tip? Go on a calm day; the shallowness means surge can kick up the silt if there’s any chop.
