PELMARINER - Halkidiki

The Pelmariner is a proper wreck dive, no doubt about it. We love how it sits, split clean in two from that collision back in '99. You drop down to the stern section first, usually, hitting the main deck at around 30 metres. The bow section is a bit deeper, closer to 40, and that's where things get really interesting. We’d suggest a sidemount setup if you’re thinking about penetrating, because there are some tight spots, especially in the engine room. What you'll find is a container ship that's become a thriving artificial reef. Giant groupers eye you from shadowy holds, and schools of amberjack swirl around the mast. The bridge section, though heavily salvaged, still has that ghostly feel. Our favourite part has to be the propeller, massive and surprisingly intact, sitting right at the stern. It’s a dive for those comfortable with deeper profiles and proper wreck skills. Visibility often stretches to 20 metres here, especially in late summer, giving you a real sense of the ship’s scale as you descend. Just watch out for the occasional fishing line.
