TRIKHONIS - Halkidiki

Trikhonis is one of our favourite wreck dives in Halkidiki, a real standout. Dropping down, the first thing that hits you is the sheer size of the old trawler. We love how she sits upright and largely intact, a proper ghost ship reaching from 40 metres all the way up to around 20 metres. The stern is particularly fascinating, with the propeller still in place and a huge rudder that just begs for a closer look. You can peer into the wheelhouse, imagining the last moments, and we’ve spent ages just watching the schools of ornate wrasse darting in and out of the broken windows. Large groupers often hang out in the deeper sections, wary but curious. We'd suggest checking the current before you descend; it can pick up here, especially in the afternoon, making for a drift on the way back to the shot line. If you're into historical wrecks that are slowly becoming living reefs, this one is for you.
