CHRISTINE - Zakynthos & Ionian Islands

The Christine wreck off Zakynthos is a proper head-scratcher, and that’s part of its charm. This roll-on/roll-off ferry, a real monster of a vessel, sits upright at 25 metres. We love how the story of its sinking – crew jailed for scuttling it – adds a layer of intrigue, like diving into a cold case file. You drop down onto this huge structure, feeling the Mediterranean chill, and the sheer scale of the ship is immediately apparent. What makes Christine special? It's not some ancient, broken-up hull. This is a relatively intact modern ship, big enough to actually swim through parts of. You can fin past the massive car deck, where light filters in from above, illuminating schools of small fish darting between the rusty supports. We'd suggest checking out the bridge area; it's heavily silted now, but you can still make out the command console, a ghostly reminder of its final voyage. Keep an eye out for moray eels tucked into the crevices and the occasional scorpionfish camouflaged on the metal. It’s a great wreck for divers who want to explore something substantial without venturing too deep.
