Ferry Boat Wreck - Zakynthos & Ionian Islands

The Ferry Boat Wreck, just off Zakynthos, is one of those Mediterranean dives that really sticks with you. It’s not a massive wreck, but it’s remarkably intact and sits upright, making for some fantastic penetration if you’re properly trained and equipped. We love dropping down onto the deck and seeing the steering wheel still in place, almost as if the captain just stepped away for a moment. What makes this site a standout for us is the way the light filters through the upper sections, illuminating schools of silversides that dart through the corridors. You’ll often find large groupers lurking in the shadows of the engine room, and moray eels peeking out from every nook and cranny. For photographers, the stern offers some brilliant shots, especially when the light catches the propeller, now encrusted with sponges. We’d suggest going early in the morning, before the boat traffic picks up, for the best visibility and a more serene experience. It’s a site that suits divers with a bit of wreck experience who appreciate an atmospheric explore rather than just a quick swim-through.
