Nestos Wreck - Zakynthos & Ionian Islands

The Nestos Wreck, off Zakynthos, is one of our favourite dives in the Ionian, mostly because it’s a proper dive for wreck lovers, not just a pile of metal. We generally find the visibility here to be excellent, often pushing 30 metres, which makes approaching the wreck a real treat. Dropping down, the ship really emerges from the blue, upright and largely intact. The bridge is the first thing that catches your eye, a ghostly silhouette against the surface light. You can penetrate quite a bit here, if you’re comfortable, exploring the holds and corridors. Look for the schools of damselfish that cloud around the superstructure, and the moray eels peeking from every shadowed crevice. We’ve often spotted large groupers lurking deeper in the holds too. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration, not just a quick swim-through. If you love a wreck with history and some decent opportunities for penetration, the Nestos is a standout.
