DIVEICELAND.COM - Silfra & Thingvellir
The team at DIVEICELAND.COM are the people you want guiding you through the extraordinary waters of Silfra. They specialise in making that unique experience accessible, particularly for those whose drysuit experience might be limited. We love how they demystify cold water diving, offering everything from PADI Open Water to Divemaster, all while ensuring you’re warm and safe. If you’re looking to dive between continents and want a reliable, friendly crew to manage the logistics, these are your folks. Silfra itself is simply surreal. You’re not just swimming; you’re floating through gin-clear glacial meltwater, the visibility often stretching over 100 metres. It’s a quiet dive, the only sound really being your own breathing. The light plays through the water in incredible ways, picking out the stark, ancient rock formations. We’d suggest going early in the morning if you can; it’s a popular spot, and having a bit more space to yourself truly enhances the meditative quality of the dive. Yes, it’s cold, around 2-4°C year-round, but a quality drysuit (which they provide) makes it perfectly comfortable. We always recommend layering up underneath. The Silfra Hall and the Cathedral are our favourite sections, with the latter offering a breathtaking expanse that just feels… otherworldly. It’s less about marine life here and more about the geology and that incredible, impossible clarity.
