CICNUS - Portofino & Liguria

The Cicnus isn’t one of those big cargo ship wrecks, but what it lacks in sheer size, it makes up for in character and setting. Dropping down to 43 metres, this old yacht still holds a lot of its form. You can make out the bow, the stern, and even the superstructure relatively intact, giving it a really defined shape against the sandy bottom. We love how the deck is now home to a scatter of red gorgonians, their branches waving gently with the surge. Look closely and you’ll find moray eels peeking from portholes and schools of little damselfish darting between the decaying framework. It’s a dive that suits those with a bit of wreck experience, perhaps looking for something a little different from the usual reef. Best dived in the morning before the boat traffic gets heavy, when the light filters down through the Portofino water, giving the wreck an almost ethereal glow.
