Cristo redentore - Portofino & Liguria

Diving the Cristo Redentore, the 'Christ of the Abyss' statue, in Portofino Bay is one of those quintessential Mediterranean dives. Dropping down to the bronze statue feels a bit surreal, a quiet reverence settling in as you approach the outstretched arms. We’ve found the statue itself, sitting at around 17 metres, often acts as a beacon for the local fish population. You'll usually spot schools of damsel fish flitting around its base, and we've regularly seen conger eels peering from rocky crevices nearby. Look closely on the rocks for the delicate sunset cup corals and, if you're lucky, a common lobster tucked away. It's a relatively easy dive, good for most experience levels, but can get busy with other boats. Our tip: go early to beat the crowds and enjoy the serenity.
