DINA ACCAME - Portofino & Liguria

Dina Accame, for us, is a little slice of Ligurian history you can actually dive, and what a story she tells. We’re talking about a merchant ship, sunk in 1917 after hitting a mine, and she now rests in a surprisingly shallow 5 metres. That depth is a real gift, making her accessible for pretty much anyone. You’re not fighting narcosis, you’re just swimming around a century-old vessel, her metal hull encrusted with sponges and soft corals. This site is less about dramatic drop-offs and more about intimate exploration. We love just hovering above the bow, imagining her journey, then finning along the collapsed mid-section where schools of damselfish flit in and out of the corroded plates. Look closely, and you’ll spot moray eels tucked into crevices, their heads poking out with that classic wary stare. The light penetration is fantastic, really illuminating the rust colours and the way the marine growth has reclaimed the ship. Our advice? Go early in the morning. The water is often at its calmest, and you might have the whole wreck to yourself before the boat traffic picks up. It’s not a deep, challenging dive, but it’s a genuinely evocative one, perfect for photographers or anyone who appreciates a tangible piece of the past.
