GENEPESCA - Portofino & Liguria

The *Genepesca* is one of those wrecks we keep coming back to in Portofino, not for massive pelagics, but for its sheer atmosphere. She went down on May 26, 1945, a relatively intact fishing boat now resting upright on a sandy bottom at 24 metres. We love how the light plays on her deck, filtering through the water, illuminating the wheelhouse and cargo holds you can easily poke your head into. Visibility here can be a bit variable, but on a good day, the sense of history is palpable. Swarms of small damselfish dart in and out of the rusted metal, and we’ve often spotted conger eels peeking from dark corners. It’s a gentle wreck dive, perfectly suited for those who appreciate exploring history that’s become a home for marine life, without needing to fight strong currents. Our advice? Go in the late morning, the sun hits the stern just right.
