OUED TIFLET (PROBABLY) - Portofino & Liguria

The Oued Tiflet, or at least what we're fairly sure is the Oued Tiflet, holds a special sort of quiet dignity out here in the Ligurian Sea. This isn't a brightly lit, coral-encrusted showpiece; it’s a sombre, historical dive, best suited for experienced wreck enthusiasts with a penchant for deeper exploration. Dropping to 45 metres, you’ll find the 71-metre steamship lying in two main sections, the bow and stern separated, giving it a dramatic, broken feel. We love the way the light filters down, creating long shadows across the deck, especially in the late morning. It’s often possible to swim through some of the cargo holds, feeling the cool, still water inside the vessel. Look for the large groupers that patrol the deeper sections and the clouds of small damselfish that shimmer above the superstructure. Our tip: watch your buoyancy carefully, as the silt can be easily disturbed, and keep an eye on your bottom time; 45 metres comes with consequences. It’s a dive that invites contemplation, a real journey into history.
