Relitto Colosso - Portofino & Liguria

The Relitto Colosso, resting at 37 metres, is one of those wrecks that just hits right, especially if you appreciate a bit of history with your bottom time. It’s an old cargo ship, sunk during World War II, broken into a few major sections that have settled upright, giving it a ghost ship vibe as you descend. We love how the hull is encrusted with sponges and gorgonians, bright red and orange against the steel, with clouds of damselfish and small schools of bream darting in and out of the darker spaces. Exploring the bow and stern sections, you can poke around the hold, where groupers sometimes lurk, quite unafraid. Our favourite part is the bridge section, where you can still make out the outline of the wheelhouse. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, letting your eyes adjust to the ambient light filtering through the Mediterranean blue. Current here can pick up, so we’d suggest timing your dive for slack tide, usually found by asking the local dive shop. It's an intermediate dive, really, for those comfortable with the depth and a bit of overhead environment.
