Relitto del Genova - Portofino & Liguria

The Relitto del Genova isn’t just another Mediterranean wreck; it’s a proper time capsule, a cargo ship sunk during WWII that now rests upright on the seabed. We love how accessible it is, sitting at about 40 metres, meaning recreational trimix divers can really spend some quality time exploring her. Drop down the shot line and you’ll often find yourself in a playful current, but it’s nothing too wild once you’re on the wreck itself. As you descend, the sheer size of the Genova becomes clear, a haunting silhouette emerging from the blue. The stern is a fantastic starting point, with the propeller still largely intact and huge schools of damselfish flitting nervously around the rudder. Inside the holds, you’ll find relics of her cargo, ceramic tiles and bottles, all encrusted with growth and patrolled by curious conger eels. We always find the bridge area fascinating, though it’s largely collapsed, the ghostly outline gives you a real sense of her past. This dive is perfect for those who appreciate history intertwined with marine life; scorpionfish hide in every crevice, and the resident groupers are bold and unafraid. Our favourite time to dive it is late morning, just as the sun starts to angle, sending shafts of light into the shallower parts of the wreck. Just watch your buoyancy; the silt inside can kick up easily.
