Tirpitz - Portofino & Liguria

The Tirpitz, off the Ligurian coast, is one of those dives that sticks with you. It’s a merchant ship, deliberately scuttled in the war, and she sits upright on the seabed, perfectly preserved. We love the way the light filters through the upper decks, illuminating the hold where you can see the cargo still stacked. Exploring the Tirpitz feels like stepping back in time, a silent museum under the sea. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the masts, and we’ve often spotted conger eels peeking out from the darker corners of the engine room. Our favourite moment is always finning past the bow, imagining her last voyage. It’s an accessible wreck for most experienced divers, the kind of place where you can spend your whole bottom time just exploring one section. Aim for a calm day; visibility can be a bit hit or miss in the Med, but when it’s good, it’s truly spectacular.
