Wrack `Genova` - Portofino & Liguria

The Wrack *Genova* is one of those Mediterranean wrecks that truly tells a story. We’ve finned over plenty of scattered remains, but this one, even without the full historical brief, feels particularly poignant. Dropping down, you start to pick out the distinct lines of the old tugboat, her deck now softened by a thick carpet of red coral, it’s a stunning sight when your torch beam hits it just right. What we love most about the *Genova* is how the marine life has completely taken over. Corbs and painted combers flit in and out of the darker spaces, making their homes among the twisted metal. Keep an eye out for slipper lobsters tucked away in crevices, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a common lobster scuttling across the hull. It’s not a huge wreck, making it ideal for a relaxed exploration, allowing you to really soak in the details rather than rushing through. Our favourite spot is usually around the stern, where the structure is a bit more intact and the coral growth seems densest. Definitely bring a good dive light; it makes all the difference in bringing out those vibrant reds and oranges.
