EFISIA SERRA - Ustica

Efisio Serra isn't a deep dive, topping out at just 10 metres, but it delivers on atmosphere. This motor vessel went down in the 1960s, a casualty of a storm, and has since become a fantastic home for fish. What we love about this wreck is how approachable it is – perfect for a long, relaxed dive, especially for those who prefer shallower profiles or want to really take their time exploring. The wreck itself is quite broken up, but you can still make out the bow and stern sections, lying on a sandy bottom amidst scattered fragments. Shoals of damselfish shimmer around the superstructure, and we’ve often seen moray eels peeking out from under plates of rusted metal. Our favourite part? The way the Mediterranean light filters down, creating these dramatic shafts that illuminate parts of the wreck, making the shadows shift and creating a sense of history. Look for scorpionfish camouflaged on the deck plates – they blend in surprisingly well. It’s a great site for photographers, too, offering plenty of natural light and interesting textures.
