Submarine Tunnel - Budva & Bar

We've always been intrigued by those old Cold War sites, and Montenegro's Submarine Tunnel near Budva doesn't disappoint for novelty. It’s exactly what it sounds like: a concrete tunnel, purpose-built for military subs, now open for divers. The depth sits around 5-12m, making it a decent option for intermediate divers comfortable with overhead environments. Inside, it’s mostly about the structure itself – the way the light plays at the entrance and exit, the cool, slightly eerie echo of your bubbles. You’ll spot the usual suspects like painted combers and common pipefish clinging to the walls. We’ve even been lucky enough to see a brown skate tucked into the sandy bottom just outside. Visibility can vary, but it's generally good enough to appreciate the scale. It's a fun, unique dive, a real step back in time, and definitely one to talk about over a post-dive beer.
