CASTILLO SAN MARCOS - Al Hoceima

Castillo San Marcos isn't your typical deep, dramatic wreck dive, and that's precisely why we love it. This isn't about bragging rights on depth, it's about pure, unadulterated exploration in bath-warm water. We found the old trawler lying just four metres down, a skeleton of twisted metal and decaying wood, making it our favourite spot for a long, relaxed second dive. Even though it’s shallow, there’s plenty to get lost in. We spent ages poking around the superstructure, watching the light play through the broken hull. Schools of juvenile seabream shimmer around the edges, and we spotted several octopus tucked into crevices, their eyes watching us with unnerving intelligence. It’s perfect for new divers getting their first taste of a wreck, or photographers wanting to play with ambient light without the pressure of a ticking no-deco limit. Go on a sunny afternoon, when the visibility is at its best and the wreck almost glows.
