The *Ioannis Nomikos* wreck in Al Hoceima is our top pick for divers seeking a genuine piece of history. This cargo ship went down in 1955, and she sits upright at a comfortable 20 metres. We love how accessible she is, even for newer wreck divers. You can fin right through the open cargo holds, seeing daylight stream in from above and the schools of glinting silversides scatter as you pass. Her superstructure is well-preserved, though time and the Mediterranean have done their work. You'll spot moray eels peering from nooks, and we've often found small groupers lurking in the shadows of the engine room. The wreck’s metalwork has become a canvas for vibrant sponges and small anemones, creating a colourful contrast against the rusty hull. For the best light, we always suggest an early morning dive, when the sun's angle really illuminates the interior spaces. Just keep an eye on the occasional fishing line.
