JACOMINA (POSSIBLY) - Al Hoceima

The ‘Jacomina’ wreck near Al Hoceima sits in a wonderfully accessible spot, barely six metres deep. We love a shallow wreck, especially one with a bit of a story, and this former yacht definitely fits the bill. She went down in 1976 on a passage from Portugal to Tenerife, which is quite the journey for a leisure vessel, though our divemasters often joke she just fancied a permanent stay in Morocco. Descending onto her, you’re greeted by the ghostly outline of a yacht, remarkably intact for her age and depth. Sunlight dapples through the water, illuminating her skeletal structure; we usually find a friendly octopus or two tucked away in the shadows of the hull. You can glide along her deck, exploring the remains of her superstructure, picturing her sailing days. For photographers, the ambient light and clear visibility make for some striking shots, especially when schools of juvenile fish dart through her cabins. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for warming up or for divers who prefer to take their time and really soak in the atmosphere of a wreck.
